Dancefx Athens is hosting their 19th annual DanceATHENS Dance Festival and Showcase, uniting the greater Athens dance community. DanceATHENS includes Dance Day announced by Official Mayoral Proclamation on October 26th, and is hosted by Dancefx, Incorporated, a not-for-profit dance organization. Over the past 19 years we've hosted tens of thousands of performers and audience members from around the Southeast, and brought master teachers such as Mia Michaels, Dave Scott, Brooke Lipton, Benji Schwimmer, Courtney Galiano, Noelle Marsh, Ben Susak, Ryan Ramirez, Jamie Goodwin, April Cook and Frank Chavez.
The DanceATHENS Dance Concert unites the dance community on Athens' most historical stage and gives your organization a platform for both enjoying the art of dance in its many forms and marketing your dance organization to thousands of prospective clients. DanceATHENS Festival information will be updated here, and we hope to see you at a workshop, social event or showcase!

Cherrise Wakeham is an established Atlanta-based choreographer and educator with a tenacious vision and a tireless devotion to her craft. She shares her passion for movement with a wide range of students, companies, and programs throughout the country, making waves in the dance community. Known to “burn the floor with edgy, explosive LA contemporary jazz performances” – Dance Magazine, and have “an undercurrent of risk-taking and emotional honesty” – ArtsCriticATL, Cherrise has also been called “a true creative genius” by Dance Informa Magazine. She was named the 2014 1 st Runner Up winner of the Capezio Award for Choreographic Excellence, a 3-time Choreographer Pick for the Pulse on Tour, and a featured choreographer for Carnival Choreographer’s Ball Atlanta. She has had her work commissioned for Flux Projects in Atlanta and has been invited to share her choreography at numerous guest performances, charitable events, and collaborative showcases.
Upon moving to Atlanta in 1998, Cherrise was a founding member of The Phoenix Dance Project, under the direction and choreography of John Mattson, where she attributes her professional start as a performer, choreographer and educator. In 2007, she founded the Atlanta-based, non-profit professional contemporary commercial dance company, Project 7. Her work both independently and with Project 7 has appeared on stages ranging from the Joyce Theatre in New York City to the Alliance, Balzer, 7 Stages, Skwhirlhaus, and Buckhead Theaters in Atlanta. In addition to having served on faculty with several touring conventions such as Force Dance Tour, Academy of Entertainment, and Breathe the Intensive, she is also the founder and director of iN House DANCE in-studio workshops and iHD Summer Intensives. Having graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Cherrise aims to combine a concentration in child development with her passion for cultivating creativity, discipline, and self-worth within her students in a professional and positive atmosphere.

April Cook is an NYC-based teacher, choreographer, and dancer from Charlotte, NC, who has been on BDC's faculty since 2004. She received her formative training under Gene Medler of the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble, Barbara Morgan Eaves, of Rhythm Dance Studio, and Miss Donna's School of Dance.
April currently teaches throughout the country, and is a judge/teacher for several competitions and conventions including NYCDA, Mainstage Productions, Dance Theater USA, The PTC Productions Annual Teacher Workshop/The PULSE on Tour, and The Big Apple Tap Festival. She has had the pleasure of leading and/or creating several projects throughout her years at Broadway Dance Center, including the annual Student Showcase and BDC's Rhythm Arts Project.
She has been a guest speaker at Dance Teacher Magazine’s Summer Conference, a tap instructor for Rosie O’Donnell’s Rosie’s Theater Kids, an arts scholarship program in Manhattan, a guest teacher at the Osaka School of Music in Osaka, Japan, and had the incredible privilege of performing nationally with Savion Glover. April is also the current liaison between Good Morning America and BDC for dance segments, and has been a movement coach for several episodes.

Dancers age 7 and up are invited to come take a fun and inspiring workshop to get in the Halloween spirit! We’ll divide into two rooms by age group if needed, and dancers will get the complete Dancefx experience! A full stretch and a moving combination will get your dancers warm for their DanceATHENS performance, challenged, and motivated. They will all leave Dancefx smiling! We can’t wait to dance with you! All levels are welcome .
